Guidelines for the Annual Research Award from the ISLSSL
I. JUSTIFICATION:
a. The International Society for Labor and Social Security Law (ISLSSL) was created in Brussels in June 1958 with a mission of an exclusively scientific nature, regardless of any political, philosophical or religious considerations.
b. The objectives of ISLSSL include:
- The study for scientific purposes of labor law and social security, at national and international levels;
- The promotion of the exchange of ideas, of comparative information, as well as close collaboration between university students, jurists and other specialists in the field of labor law and social security.
c. The ISLSSL Officers, under the presidency of Professor María Emilia Casas Baamonde, in consideration of the aforementioned and acting in accordance with the powers assigned to it by the Society’s Statutes (and in particular, articles 9.6 and 10.1) creates and announces the annual Research Award of the International Society of Labor and Social Security Law,in accordance with the following:
II. PRIZE CONDITIONS:
a. Category: single:Winning work and a first finalist will be awarded.
b. Research topics:Labor and Social Security Law from a comparative perspective.
c. Participants:lawyers, teachers, academics or researchers in general.
d. Schedule: The deadline for the reception of the works will be February 29, 2024.The selected works to be awarded will be announced timely by the Officers, including the modality and date of the award ceremony.
e. Submission of works:Each interested party must send a communication of registration in the award process and send the works to the President of ISLSSL with a copy to the Secretary General and the Treasurer. In the text, the author will only be identified with a pseudonym, avoiding any direct or indirect mention of his identity, not even in the bibliography used. The contestant must also expressly declare the acceptance of the rules and the use of the pseudonym under which they appear.
f. Requirements:The studies presented must be original and unpublished and presented in any of the three (3) official languages of the Society: English, French and Spanish. Any text received in violation of these requirements must be rejected in advance by the qualifying Jury.
g. Jury:
- The Jury will be integrated by five (5) members and will be announced by the Officers of the ISLSSL, once the period for the presentation of the studies has expired, according to literal d.
- No member of the Officers, nor the Vice Presidents, may be part of the Jury. No more than one (1) of the honorary presidents may integrate the Jury.
- For the appointment of the other four (4) the Officers will seek a regional and gender balance.
- The composition of the jury will be officially communicated through the ISLSSL website when the call is made.
- The resolutions of the jury will be adopted by simple majority and its decision will be unappealable. However, the Jury may declare the prize or prizes void if it deems it justified.
- The Jury functions will be strictly ad honorem.
h. Awards:
- Two thousand US Dollars (2,000.00 US $) to the winner.
- One thousand US Dollars (1,000.00 US $), to the finalist.
- The Jury may make honorable mentions on any work or works presented, which will not imply the allocation of any amount of money.
- The prizes will be awarded to the work or works deserving of such distinction, according to the criteria of the qualifying jury. In case of a tie between the contestants, the prize will be divided equally.
- If the award-winning work is co-authored, the prize money will be shared equally.
i. Award ceremony:
a. The Officers will convene, either in person, online or blended, a ceremony for the delivery of the awards which could coincide with the celebration of one of the ISLSSL Congresses. On that occasion, the winners must make a presentation of their work, answering the questions and comments of the attendees.
b. The award-winning studies will be published in the Labor Magazine and on the ISLSSL website, without prejudice to the steps that the Officers may take so that a publisher of recognized prestige publishes the award-winning work, together or separately, with the work qualified as a finalist.
c. In any case, if the Jury recommends it, the Officers will also publish in the Labor Magazine and on the Website the works that have deserved an honorable mention.
j. Final disposition:
What is not foreseen in the previous bases will be resolved by the Officers.
