Policy of sponsorship of the International Society for labour and Social Security Law (ISLSSL)
a. JUSTIFICATION:
The International Society for Labor and Social Security Law (ISLSSL) was created in Brussels in June 1958 with a mission of an exclusively scientific nature, regardless of any political, philosophical or religious considerations.
- The objectives of de ISLSSL include:
- The study for scientific purposes of labour law and social security, at national and international levels;
- The promotion of the exchange of ideas, of comparative information, as well as close collaboration between university students, jurists and other specialists in the field of labour law and social security.
- The ISLSSL officers, under the presidency of Professor María Emilia Casas Baamonde, in consideration of the aforementioned and acting in accordance with the competence assigned to it by the Society’s Statutes (and in particular, articles 9.6 and 10.1) ; reiterating a principle that has been guiding the management of the current officers, such as promoting transparency, participation and good practices in the performance of the ILSSL and in the administration of its funds, it has believed it necessary to agree on the following sponsorship policy of the entity:
b. SPONSORSHIP POLICY:
The International Society, in view of its attributions and the tasks it pursues, may agree to support initiatives, activities, projects, events (seminars, congresses, conferences) that the national associations present to it and that are approved by the officers.
These sponsorships will be governed by the requirements and criteria that are mentioned below:
a) These should be events of national associations, preferably considering initiatives that bring together two or more national entities that are members of the ISLSSL. In this sense, the Officers wishes to promote bilateral, regional or sub-regional events, which -with the greatest extent- could be of interest to our member associations.
b) Sufficiently in advance, interested entities must request sponsorship through a proposal that will include a duly motivated project that indicates at least:
-
- Sense and orientation of the event;
- Target audience to which it is directed;
- Objective pursued with the organization of project;
- Speakers or facilitators involved, who must be consulted with the Officers;
- Agenda of each event, which must also be consulted with the Officers, and;
- Any other aspect that the Officers deems appropriate to clarify or request from the applicant associations
c) The events that the ISLSSL sponsors must be completely free and not have any lucrative purpose.
d) Without prejudice to any other criterion that seems reasonable for the purposes of transparency and best practices of inclusion, preference will be given to initiatives postulated by national associations that can show comparatively greater membership; recent growth in its number of members; better sequence of activities developed in the immediately preceding time, greater and better promotion of the ISLSSL Young Lawyers Section, etc.
e) The foregoing does not prevent that, as long as the national association or associations consider it good, they could agree to support public entities, preferably: universities, research centers, training schools for unions, employers or civil servants; magazines or editorials of an institutional nature whose object is linked to the purposes and tasks of the ISLSSL, provided that they act jointly with a national entity that is a member of the Society.
f) The beneficiary of the approved contribution will always be one or more national associations, active and solvent in the ISLSSL. In no case will deposits or contributions of any nature be made to natural or legal persons other than the requesting association or associations.
g) When the contribution is made through the granting of scholarships, these will be granted directly to the beneficiaries who, according to the profile of each program or activity, have qualified for it, which must be accredited in each one.
h) The officers wishes to stimulate, in a particular way, those projects that include the publication of national, bi-national or sub-regional editions on topics that are of particular interest to the Society. In this sense, the Officers will suggest and promote that the topics of the projects are in some way linked to the research groups that the International Society convenes for the next World Congress.
i) The national association or associations that receive the requested sponsorship must account for the use of the resources provided by the ISLSSL, through a report that they will present within thirty (30) days after the event is held, attaching the corresponding receipts.
j) Anything not foreseen will be resolved by the officers in accordance with the statutory powers assigned to it.
ISLSSL Payments Policy
The Executive Officers of ISLSSL have received some questions regarding the payment of the annual dues, in particular whether dues can be paid in cash. The Society does not accept payment in cash.In September 2015, at the Executive Committee Meeting in Cape Town during the World Congress, the treasurer and the auditor noted that the Society no longer accepts payment in cash. This policy is consistent with best financial accounting practice as it permits easy identification of the source of revenue. This policy also reflects the increased scrutiny by governments of cross- border financial transactions in part because of concerns about money laundering and tax evasion. The Executive Officers of the Society are no longer able to carry cash from one country to another for the purpose of making deposits at UBS in Geneva.
The Society maintains two bank accounts with Union Banque de Suisse (UBS), at the Geneva- ILO branch. One is a dollar (USD) account and one is a euro (EUR) account. Payments by national associations of the annual dues must be made to one of those UBS accounts.
Each national association is responsible for selecting the method for making this payment. Most national associations choose a bank-to-bank transfer, whereby the national association (the sender) directs a local bank to deposit a certain amount directly into the Society’s UBS account. The sending bank will charge the sender and the national association is responsible for paying that charge. If UBS charges the Society a fee for receipt of the funds and deposit into the Society’s account, the Society will assume that charge.
For any additional information on the bank details, please contact the ISLSSL Treasurer.
Use of the ISLSSL Logo Policy
The ISLSSL retains the right to control use of its name and logo in light of its stated purposes, in particular, Article 1.3 of the bylaws which state that “the aims of the Society are of a purely scientific character, independent of all considerations of a political, philosophical or religious nature”.
Use of the logo is granted solely for the purpose of indicating that the national association is affiliated with the International Society. It is appropriate to use the ISLSSL logo on the national association’s stationery and website. With regard to events that the national association may be supporting, but which are not events that the national association itself is organizing, the ISLSSL logo should not be used without the written permission of the Society’s Secretary General.
